First of all, you are only required to pay for major mac updates.. such has Snow Leopard or Lion. Other minor updates are free. The same goes for windows, you have to pay for Windows 7 or 8 however...

Yeah, this actually has no bearing on reality. The last two major system updates have been $30. Every other software update is free, unless you’re going out and buying specialized software.
